Woody Allen has long been dogged by claims that he sexually abused his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow. But now, Dylan is giving a detailed account of the abuse in her own words.
Dylan, now 28 and married, writes an open letter published by The New York Times, accusing the famed film director of sexually assaulted her when she was seven years old.
"What’s your favorite Woody Allen movie?" Dylan writes. "Before you answer, you should know: When I was seven years old, Woody Allen took me by the hand and led me into a dim, closet-like attic on the second floor of our house. He told me to lay on my stomach and play with my brother’s electric train set. Then he sexually assaulted me."
"He talked to me while he did it, whispering that I was a good girl, that this was our secret, promising that we’d go to Paris, and I’d be a star in his movies," Dylan continues. "I remember staring at that toy train, focusing on it as it traveled in its circle around the attic. To this day, I find it difficult to look at toy trains."
Mia Farrow, Dylan's mom, split from now-78-year-old Woody in 1992 and filed molestation charges against him. The charges were later dropped by a prosecutor who deemed Dylan to be too emotionally unstable to go to trial. Woody went on to marry his adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn in 1997.
The scandal came to light again this month when Woody was honored with a lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes. On the day of the ceremony, Mia and Woody's biological son Ronan — who is a year younger than Dylan — tweeted, "Missed the Woody Allen tribute — did they put the part where a woman publicly confirmed he molested her at age 7 before or after Annie Hall?"
Dylan concludes her letter by calling out the big-name stars who have appeared in Woody's films over the years. "What if it had been your child, Cate Blanchett?" she writes. "Louis CK? Alec Baldwin? What if it had been you, Emma Stone? Or you, Scarlett Johansson? You knew me when I was a little girl, Diane Keaton. Have you forgotten me?"
