When the cast of A&E’s reality hit Duck Dynasty released their chart-topping (seriously!) Christmas album last holiday season, many people were left scratching their heads. What kind of musical talent could a group of Louisiana duck hunters really have?
But despite that, the album went on to be the top-selling holiday album of 2013, and now we know (in part) why: Reed Robertson. That’s right, Jase and Missy’s teenage son is actually a talented musician who just landed himself a spot on a tour with American Idol alum Colton Dixon, among others. Well done, sir!
That got us thinking: Who is Reed, really? Though we know his reality star father like the back of our hands, his strapping son is still relatively unknown territory for us viewers. So let’s learn a little more about him, shall we?
Scroll down for some fast facts on the on-the-rise Duck Dynasty offspring:
Like his Papaw Phil, Reed is a fan of the ol’ pigskin.
Following in his family’s footsteps (both Phil and Si Robertson played college football back in the day, with Phil nearly entering the NFL), the high school senior is an accomplished athlete. In fact, his dad Jase has even said that he thinks Reed will likely play college football at LSU in the fall!
He both sings and plays guitar.
If you were able to pick up “Duck the Halls”, you might remember Reed as the album’s high point in the tune “Camouflage and Christmas Lights.” The teen boasts a pretty good voice — as well as some guitar skills! — which he showed off in a school performance last year (you can see it here).
He overcame a serious personal struggle a couple years back.
When Duck Dynasty first hit it big, young Reed struggled to deal with the pressures of newfound fame. In the Christian film I Am Second, released last fall, he revealed that he let the attention get the better of him, leaving him “thinking that I was better than everyone else because of who my family was.” Reed ultimately alienated himself in the process, lost his friends, and “hit rock bottom.” So much so, that he even considered suicide. But he was able to get the help he needed, with support from family and friends, and today he is stronger than ever and “back on track with Jesus”!
