Pretty Little Liars Season 4, Episode 18 Burning Questions — What Is Ezra Up To?
We love all ofPretty Little Liars’ constant thrills and surprises, but at the end of every episode, it always seems as though we have more questions than answers — and that was especially true this week.
To that end, we’ve tackled the biggest questions from this week’s episode in order to figure out what’s really going on in Rosewood, and to pick up on any and all clues.
We’re still not convinced that Ezra is Big “A,” since the show just wouldn’t give that info away so soon. But all those hidden cameras are pretty darn incriminating. So… maybe Ezra is working for the FBI and getting info on Ali’s case? Or maybe he’s researching a book about the girls? There’s got to be a logical, non-evil explanation for his behavior — we’re just not seeing it yet.
2. How did Jason’s photos of Aria get in A’s lair?
Back in Season 2, the Liars find close-up photos of Aria in Jason’s shed, which Jason claims were taken by Ali. This week, those same pics are on the wall at A’s lair at the end of the episode. Does this mean Jason is working with the “A” team? We certainly know that he and Ali have had their differences.
One reason to doubt that Ezra is “A”: The lair we see him using in the cabin is not the same lair we see “A” using at the end of the episode while the black-and-white movie is playing. For example, Ezra’s lair has an electrical pipe going around the room at about the level of the top of his computer, whereas A’s lair doesn’t. Does everyone on the “A” team has their own lair? Or else Ezra isn’t actually “A.”
4. How is Wren involved?
Did someone steal Wren’s prescription pad — or is Wren involved with “A”? It does seem possible that Wren may have written the prescription for the ADHD meds that Spencer’s pal Brenda uses. Plus, there have been a lot of medical scares lately — Shana gets drugged, Em’s dad’s collapse, Hanna’s dental drugging — which all could have been caused by Wren.
5. Where did all that money come from?
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a wad of cash on the show, as Ezra had one in his sock drawer, too. But where did this money come from, which Emily finds in Ali’s poster? The note on the money appears to include the words “Barile Volante,” along with an NYC phone number. One person whom we know to have been in NYC lately is Ashley Marin.
6. Who drugged Shana?
Shana has clearly been through some far more intimidating stuff because of “A,” like when Jenna almost drowned. So why is that she gets so frightened by some red paint on that Ravenswood sign? If Shana really is close pals with Ali, you wouldn’t think she’d suddenly abandon Ali so quickly. But have we indeed seen the last of Shana?
We don’t usually feel sorry for Ali, as she’s not exactly the show’s most likable character. But we definitely feel for her after she ends up almost penniless in the phone booth (phone booths still exist?) and gets a glimpse at the photo of herself with the Liars. The big question now: Where is she heading on the bus? Nothing wrong with a good ol’ fashioned road trip.
8. Did we just get another clue that Ali has a twin?
We had already seen Ali’s French poster with twins on it. But the fact that the show made the poster part of the storyline this week by putting the money back there seems like a none-too-subtle way of telling us that we’re about to learn something about twins. Or maybe the show realizes that people are waiting for twin clues, and so this is just a red herring.
9. Is Holbrook trying to tell Hanna something?
We can’t quite figure out whether we can trust Detective Holbrook, who appears to be trying to send Hanna a message with that Arthur Conan Doyle quote about paying attention to the little things. But we want him to be trustworthy, in part because he’s so cute. And one more new character whom we don’t know whether to trust is Jesse the counselor.
10. Does Aria taking photos suggest that she might be “A”?
Don’t get us wrong — we really don’t want Aria to be “A.” Still, it was rather eyebrow-raising to hear her say that she was out taking photos while she was away from the cabin, considering that we had seen “A” taking pictures. Then, Aria is off getting chickpeas right when Shana is drugged. In other words, let’s hope someone can verify seeing Aria at that grocery store.
