Gabrielle Union is keeping her upcoming wedding to Dwyane Wade simple — even if it means making brutal cuts to her guest list and wedding party.
On The Arsenio Hall Show last night (February 10), the 41-year-old actress reflected on the lessons she learned from her first wedding — when she married NFL player Chris Howard in 2001.
"I just wrote checks. I was working. I had a wedding planner. I showed up, and I was like, 'Oh, that's nice. Who picked that out?'"
To make matters even weirder, the pastor that married them didn't even get her name right: "He was like, 'Do you, Gaaa-brielle…' And I was like, 'I, Gaaa-brielle…' Like, I pronounced my own name incorrectly. So that should have been a sign — this isn't gonna work. Not gonna work."
So now, the Being Mary Jane star is back in control… and giving the wedding party the ol' heave-ho.
"No bridesmaids, no groomsmen," she told Arsenio. "Trying to wrangle a bunch of broads, and … somebody wants one kind of dress, somebody wants something else. You start to not like them after a couple months. I mean, we're older. This is the second time around. It's us and the kids."
Them, the kids, and not a lot of assembled family and friends, apparently. "There's a lot of people that think they're coming. And they are not. So it's bad," she said, adding that Dwayne is "executioner" as they narrow down the list. "If you're not about us, and we don't both have a relationship with you, you're not gonna make it."
Sounds like the kind of low-key affair most brides dream of!
