American Idol execs cleaned house last season, cutting all the leads except the men of the blinding pearly-whites, Ryan Seacrest and Keith Urban (whose future remained uncertain for awhile).
It was around that same time we first heard rumors the producers were going for broke in an attempt to save the flailing show. One theory mentioned a supposed "dream team" panel made up on Pink, Justin Bieber, Diddy, and Selena Gomez!
The main rumor that had sticking power, however, was that the show would take on an all-alum panel. In the end, we got that in some part with Jennifer Lopez returning and former Idol mentor Harry Connick Jr. joining the show. In our book, the current panel is fabulous and has made the show fresh once again.
Turns out, however, we'll get the best of both words thanks to yet another Season 13 twist. Randy Jackson will be returning as a mentor and head of something called "Randy Jackson's Boot Camp." What, no dawg pound (sorry, had to)?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "camp counselors" for this new phase will be popular alums Chris Daughtry and Adam Lambert. We knew that Randy would be returning as a mentor but this is certainly an exciting update!
The "Boot Camp" shows will air next week, beginning on the special Tuesday night airing on February 18, and will run for three nights. A source tells THR the purpose of the camp is for viewers "to get to know the contestants before they vote for the first time."
Chris was reportedly the first one to leak the news, tweeting on January 30: "Had a blast working with the @AmericanIdol contestants along with @YO_RANDYJACKSON and @adamlambert for #idol workshop. Can't wait for u 2 C."
We can't wait either!
What do you think of the idea for Boot Camp? Sound off in the comments!
