Jesse Williams Sounds Off on Michael Dunn Trial: “People Should Be Outraged” (VIDEO)
Grey’s Anatomy’s Jesse Williams (Jackson Avery) has always taken every opportunity to speak out on matters that are important to him, and this time, he’s not taking what’s going on in the Michael Dunn trial sitting down.
In case you aren’t up to speed on what’s going on with the case, we’ll give you the short version: Right now, a man in Florida named Michael Dunn is on trial after being accused for killing a black teen after they argued about the teen's music being too loud in his car in November 2012. Jesse thinks “people should be outraged” about this case, and he appeared live on HLN Thursday to speak out about the trial.
“This is a tradition in this country when people are able to go ahead and kill black people because they got sassed because we were inconvenienced, and we become a victim of a fantasy,” Jesse said.
“This is a societal problem where people should be outraged when a man is able to instigate an interaction with kids and then shoot them when it doesn’t go well,” Jesse continued. “It should be an outrage for everybody.”
And despite the fact that Jesse’s overcome prejudice and found so much success, trials like this are still something he’s passionate about. He’s tired of “the gross injustice” of the prison system, and he thinks its time everyone should take a stand.
“Feeling threatened is not the same thing as being threatened,” Jesse said. “We have to keep fighting to be heard and to be treated as human beings. This is not closed, this case. This guy is a sociopath. He goes to jail. Next.”
