Downton Abbey Season 5: New Cast Members From Girls and 24 Announced!

Season 5 is scheduled to begin filming this month, and it looks like a few new characters will be joining the Crawley family in Downton Abbey! Carnival Films and ITV have announced three new characters for the new season. Richard E. Grant (Girls), Anna Chancellor (Four Weddings and a Funeral), and Rade Sherbedgia (24) will play Simon Bricker, Lady Anstruther, and Kuragin, respectively.

We know the least about Simon — just that he's "a guest of the Granthams" — but we still don't have the whole story on the other two.

Kuragin, whose last name is unknown, is a Russian refugee, having fled the Russian Revolution after the First World War. This doesn't tell us a whole lot, except that maybe Princess Anastasia will make her way into the Abbey's discussion of current events.

So who's Lady Anstruther? Footman Jimmy Kent (Ed Speleers) was previously employed by the Dowager Lady Anstruther, so with someone from that clan coming to town, expect some interesting plot twists coming his way.

"We are delighted to welcome these talented actors to the world of Downton," says Downton executive producer Gareth Neame in a statement. "The characters they play are set to bring yet more excitement and intrigue to the show."

Returning guests for Season 5 include Dame Harriet Walker as Lady Shackleton and Peter Egan as Lord Flintshire.
