Most new artists would be thrilled to be given the over-saturation treatment on the radio, but not Lorde — although we’ve heard nothing but “Royals” and “Team” since Lorde’s uniquely haunting voice first hit the airwaves last year, Lorde says this isn’t necessarily a good thing.
When Lorde covered V magazine’s Spring 2014 music interview, she revealed the next part of her master plan to make all of us absolutely obsessed with her: To give the public a break from hearing her music before she releases new stuff.
“I want to let people stop hearing Lorde on the radio all the time, because it’s kind of crazy at the moment,” the 17-year-old told the magazine, according to Gossip Cop. “I’d like to give people a little bit of breathing room before I unleash something different.”
While we don’t mind Lorde’s singles being in rotation yet, we are willing to give them up if that means she’s working on new music. Yes, please!
And now that Lorde’s been thrown into the spotlight, it means she’s hanging out with a different crowd — and the fact that most of the people in the music industry are older than her only makes it easier for her to successfully rub elbows.
“I’ve always hung out with people older than me, with my parents’ friends, because I appreciated the conversation,” Lorde confessed. “And even now, although I have heaps of friends in high school, I also hang out with a lot of older people. And sometimes, with them, I’m like, ‘God, this is boring!’”
We’re afraid to inform you that doesn’t change even when you’re older, Lorde — some grown ups are just boring, period.
“But it means I get to have these stimulating encounters with people that I idolize, which is cool,” Lorde added.
