Meat Loaf will do anything for love — and he won’t do Dancing With the Stars if his wife says no.
The singer/actor also known as Michael Lee Aday told Access Hollywood he was asked to do DWTS a couple of years ago, but he turned it down. He said no in part because he had bad knees — he's had a knee replacement since then — but also because his wife shot the idea down.
It's a shame, since the now 66-year-old star was really excited about being on DWTS. "I wanted to do it and I was so thrilled that they made me an offer that I framed the offer," Meat Loaf told Access. Why did his wife say no? He begged her for permission, but it sounds like she was attempting to protect him, saying, "You're going to take everything to heart and they're going to vote you out first." Why first? "Because you can't dance." (Wow, thanks, honey…) He insisted he could dance, but she said no.
To a lot of fans, it's a bonus if you can't dance well when you show up. That's what the pros are for — put them to work to teach! Besides, as Meat Loaf added, he does have Broadway experience from the early '70s ... although they always put him in the back of the shows. "They wanted to put me in the closet downstairs is where they wanted to put me," he quipped.
He did go on The Celebrity Apprentice in 2011, so his wife was apparently OK with that one. But if you watched him on that show, you saw that he is an emotional guy who does wear his heart on his sleeve. In fact, he had a bit of a meltdown. Hey, that's what reality TV is for!
Do you think DWTS should ask Meat Loaf again, since he was so excited to do the show, or would you rather not see him dance anyway? Season 18 premieres Monday, March 17 at 8 p.m on ABC.
