Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Cause of Death Released (VIDEO)
We started the month with the sad news that Philip Seymour Hoffman had died at age 46. Now it sounds as if we’ll be closing February out with his cause of death.
TMZreports the world-famous, highly acclaimed actor died as the result of a mixture of heroin, cocaine, and several other drugs. The outlet received the news from the New York City medical examiner, who listed the official cause of death as “acute mixed drug intoxication.”
According to the medical examiner, the drugs found in the actor’s system at the time of his death were cocaine, heroin, benzodiazepines, and amphetamines.
The news, unfortunately, may not come as a surprise to those who have followed the investigation surrounding Philip’s death. His body was discovered in his Manhattan apartment on February 2 with some sources reporting the actor had a needle in his arm. As police continued to investigate, they uncovered upwards of 50 bags of heroin and eventually arrested four people believed to be connected to supplying Philip and others with illegal drugs.
The actor’s body was laid to rest on February 7 as friends, family, and fans continue to mourn his absence. Actress Cate Blanchett dedicated her BAFTA award to her colleague while Amy Adams began to cry upon discussing her friend and co-worker.
We can only imagine the collective silence that will fall when Philip’s face flashes up on screen during the Academy Awards’s annual “In Memoriam” tribute when the Oscars air this Sunday.
