The Matrix Prequel Trilogy in the Works at Warner Brothers — Report

One of the biggest cinematic series is about to be "reloaded," if a new report by Latino Review is to be believed.

The site claims that Warner Brothers is considering a prequel trilogy for The Matrix and that Andy and Lana Wachowski — the writers and directors of the original three films — are busily working on the screenplays, having already handed outlines and treatments over to the studio.

Apparently, Warner Brothers is eager to have a major franchise of its own by 2017 to fend off Disney's Star Wars installments and Fox's Avatar sequels.

Latino Reviews touts that an early outline for one of the prequels delves into the birth of the Matrix, i.e. the simulated reality in which our machine overlords keep us humans while they harvest our energy. (Not that we buy into any of this sci-fi hooey, right? Right?)

The original series — 1999's The Matrix and 2003's The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions — starred Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Laurence Fishburne. The trio of wire-fu mind-benders raked in $592 million worldwide.

The Matrix series also wowed moviegoers with revolutionary visual effects — "bullet-time" camerawork, in particular — so we're eager to see what the Wachowskis are dreaming up this time.

We just hope they don't pull a Star Wars and make a prequel trilogy so disappointing that they create another trilogy to redeem themselves!
