Cory Monteith Left Out of 2014 Oscars In Memoriam Tribute (VIDEO)
During the 2014 Oscars, award season’s biggest night of the year paid tribute to 47 people from the world of film who died this past year. Cory Monteith’s (Finn) was nowhere among those 47 names.
While famous faces like James Gandolfini, Paul Walker, and Philip Seymour Hoffman all made the list, the Glee star — who passed away in July 2013 of a heroin overdose — was noticeably absent.
On the one hand, Cory was not known as a film star. He was mostly recognized for his work on TV, and he was most certainly remembered with a special individual tribute during the 2013 Emmy Awards back in September. (It was a choice, however, that received some criticism, seeing as Cory had never been nominated for an Emmy.)
But the Oscar tribute listed the names of not just movie actors, but crew members as well. And Cory had appeared in a handful of films, including Selena Gomez’s Monte Carlo, Final Destination 3, and a couple of indies, such as Sisters & Brothers. So the argument that he wasn’t included simply for lack of being a big name movie star holds no weight.
Plenty of Cory fans are upset about seeing Cory’s name left out. It feels like it could be a dis, expecially in light of his his other awards show tributes worked out. If you remember the 2014 Grammys back in January, Cory was remembered during that awards show... but his name was misspelled!
