On March 3, 23-year-old singer De'Shawn Washington took The Voice stage to belt out “Twistin’ the Night Away” by Sam Cooke. The Natchitoches, Louisiana native dropped out of college in order to help his family make ends meet, and hopes that by being on The Voice, it could change his family’s life for the better.

After dancing a bit in her seat, coach Shakira pushed her button for the singer. When his routine was over, both Usher and Blake Shelton expressed their disappointment in not pushing their button for the singer who they described had an appreciation for “classic” soul music. Their loss is Shakira's incredible game, but Usher seems to think he might be able to steal De'Shawn later on down the line.
