Maleficent: Angelina Jolie is Spellbinding on Entertainment Weekly Cover (VIDEO)
Is it wrong that we're suddenly rooting for Sleeping Beauty's antagonist? Perhaps we're just enchanted by Angelina Jolie's image on the March 14 cover of Entertainment Weekly. The 38-year-old appears in costume as the demonic fairy Maleficent, with white skin, red lips, pointy cheekbones, and — of course — that iconic two-horned headdress.
Maleficent, which hits theaters on May 30, is one of the year's most-anticipated films — and a Disney movie that dares to show a classic story from an evildoer's point of view.
"The exercise wasn't, how can we have fun with a villain?" the actress tells the magazine. "It was: What turns people evil and vile and aggressive and cruel? What could have possibly happened to her?"
How does Angelina Jolie feel about being the natural choice for a character dubbed The Mistress of All Evil?
"It is really funny when people say you’d be obvious for a great villain," she laughs.
The film — written by Beauty and the Beast writer and Lion King co-writer Linda Woolverton and directed by Avatar production designer Robert Stromberg — also stars Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora, Sharlto Copley as King Stefan, Brenton Thwaites as Prince Phillip, and Miranda Richardson as Queen Ulla. Angelina's daughter Vivienne even has a role — playing a younger Aurora.
If this photo is any indication, Angie will be devilishly good at being oh-so-bad.
