On March 10, singer Josh Kaufman took The Voice stage to belt out “One More Try” by George Michael. The 38-year-old Indiana native hoped that by being on The Voice, he would be able to pursue his musical career, which he feared he’d have to give up in favor of having a more steady job. Josh received an almost instant button push from Adam Levine, followed closely by Blake Shelton. Moments later, Shakira joined in the battle for Josh, followed by Usher.

Blake complimented Josh, by calling him “amazing” and saying he had an “incredible” voice. When Josh described himself as a soul artist, Usher went in for the kill by stating that he knew a lot about soul music, and that Josh would need someone who knew how to translate that for him. Adam joined in the fight by not only complimenting him for tackling a George Michael song, but for having an amazing voice. Shakira called Josh the “real deal,” calling him the artist that she’d been waiting for, and telling him that she’d be devastated if he didn’t choose her. Sadly for Shakira, Josh chose Adam to be his coach.
