New Directions Lose Nationals and Glee Club is Cancelled — No, For Real!
During tonight’s Glee Season 5, Episode 11: “City of Angels,” the unthinkable happened. The New Directions competed in, and ultimately lost the National show choir competition. As a result the McKinley High glee club was cancelled.
We’ll give you a moment to let that sink in. Glee club is over. (Like, for real.) After almost five seasons of Glee-ful fun, life lessons, and tales of triumphing over all odds... Mr. Schue’s team of glee club misfits really is through.
It all went down in the last seconds of the March 11 episode, when Sue Sylvester called Schue into her office. Roz Washington had just led the Cheerios to another National championship, and while New Directions had failed to bring home their National title. Principal Sylvester only has a limited amount of funding in her budget. Without a championship title backing them, the glee club no longer had a shot at club status.
This isn’t a fakeout. This isn’t a ploy. Sue won’t be reversing her decision in a couple of episodes. FOX has already confirmed that Glee will be leaving Ohio behind and making a permanent shift to New York City.
But before the switch, we’ve still got a little bit of Ohio left to go. Next week marks the first installment of Glee’s special two-week 100th episode extravaganza. All of the original glee club members will come back to say their final goodbyes.
