Watch Dexter Roberts Sing “Sweet Home Alabama” in American Idol 2014 Top 11 — March 12, 2014
It’s hard to believe that American Idol started almost two months ago, but here we are watching the contestants fight for a spot on the summer tour! On tonight’s episode (March 12), the 11 remainders contenders will show us their true artistry by taking on “Songs From the Cinema.” We’re actually more excited by this theme than we have been in awhile — so much so that we even picked our own choices for them to sing!
Next up is Dexter Roberts, who continues to pay tribute to his roots with one down home country song after another. This time, the “full-fledged Southern boy” decides to show his love for his home state by taking on “Sweet Home Alabama” from Forrest Gump. While it’s certainly one of the safest songs he could have chosen, the judges applaud him for knowing who he is.
“When I see you up there now, I think you’re really starting to believe that you could win. I think it’s important that you believe in that. That was a good performance.”
“I think you’re really smart,” adds Harry. “You’re going down the checklist: I’m gonna pick a song that everybody knows. I’m gonna give a really solid performance. But you still have to bring something completely different to it. I thought it was solid, and if you keep stringing these really popular tunes together with solid performances, you're tough to beat.”
Do you think Dexter deserves to make it to the Top 10? Sound off in the comments!
