Before this week, there was no doubt that the most cringeworthy “After the Final Rose” in Bachelor history was Jason Mesnick’s. As you probably recall (despite your best efforts to repress it), we all had to watch him let Season 13 winner Melissa Rycroft know that, whoops, he wanted a do-over to pick Molly Malaney. So, he took the ring back, she said some words, and it went straight into the annals of awkwardness. However, we’d now say Juan Pablo Galavis’s AFTR gives Jason’s a serious run for its money in the “most cringe-worthy” category — and Melissa agrees!
Melissa — who is currently expecting her second child with husband Tye Strickland — tells People that she’s not a Juan Pablo fan, following his nightmarish final interview with Chris Harrison on Monday night. However, she does appreciate that Bachelor fans now have a new so-bad-it’s-good season to pick on.
“I have to thank Juan Pablo for being controversial because I think he took the heat off of our season,” she quips. She adds that JPG did not seem “likable” or appear to be “genuinely there to find love and find a wife.” And in a tweet following this week’s show, Melissa wrote, “[I]t's safe to say our season no longer holds the record for most awkward After the Final Rose! Ay Yi Yi!”
We love that Melissa has such a great sense of humor about the train-wreck nature of her season, which is a testament to how happy she is now in her own love life. And while Jason and Molly appear to still be on Team Juan Pablo (which is be a pretty elite — er, trim? — group at this point), it’s clear that Melissa empathizes with what Nikki Ferrell must have been experiencing when El Bachelor refused to admit feeling anything resembling a strong emotion for her.
So will Juan Pablo and Nikki prove to be a better match than Jason and Melissa were? We’re not so sure at the moment, but we’re hoping to be proven wrong.
Are you surprised by Nikki’s harsh comments about Juan Pabs? And do you think he and Nikki will last?
