Every character on The Walking Dead (amongst those who are still living, of course) have undergone dramatic transformations since Season 1 of the show, but perhaps the most evolved character is Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride).
In Season 1, Carol was a timid mother and abused wife who only felt comfortable washing clothes and taking care of others. After her daughter Sophia disappeared and ended up as a walker in Season 2, Carol began her transformation into a badass gal who wasn’t about to let any walker take anything meaningful from her again — at least not without a fight.
By the start of Season 4, Carol was teaching the children of the prison how to use knives and kill walkers, a skill that served Lizzie (Brighton Sharbino) well in the midseason finale when she shot Alicia square in the head, thus saving Tyreese’s (Chad Coleman) life.
Still, that doesn’t mean that she hasn’t made some questionable decisions along the way as well. Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) memorably banished Carol from the prison much earlier this season after he learned that she killed Karen and David after they contracted that deadly flu. We still have to see how all of that is going to play out (Tyreese doesn’t know that Carol murdered his girlfriend) but regardless, Melissa says she’s proud of her character.
The Kentucky native tells Kentucky.com, “Playing Carol Peletier has been an amazing experience. Whenever I see her take a stance, speak up or fight back, I'm very proud of her and continue to root hard for her. As have all of our characters, she's been through such compounded hardships. To see her still standing and fighting hard despite everything, it feels great.”
Carol will be featured in this Sunday’s Episode 14: “The Grove” so maybe she will finally confess to Tyreese and tell him that she was the one who killed Karen and David, if that is, in fact, the case.
