Caterina Scorsone’s Amelia Shepherd Heads Back to Grey’s Anatomy: How Will Derek React?
Watch out, Derek: One of the Shepherd girls is coming back to Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital.
According to TV Guide, Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) youngest sister, Amelia — played by Caterina Scorsone, who Private Practice fans know very well — is returning to the show in a recurring role that starts in May and spans the rest of Season 10.
Since Derek tends to have rocky relationships with all of his sisters, especially Amelia, we think that her return is definitely going to shake things up a little. We haven’t seen her since Season 7, when she showed up with a brain tumor patient as a peace offering. We know Derek wasn’t a huge fan of her before that — thanks to her addiction to pain medication and how it affected their family — but they managed to patch things up before the episode was over after they had a conversation about the day their father was killed.
Now, Amelia’s back, although we’re not sure why. Maybe it has to do with Derek’s new presidential project? Since Amy’s also a world class neurosurgeon, Derek might be calling on her to help out.
After Amy, a close friend of Derek’s ex-wife, Addison (Kate Walsh) was initially introduced on Private Practice, she joined the cast full time in Season 4. When the show ended, she said she’d totally be up for a Grey’s reunion — looks like she got her wish!
