Pretty Little Liars Season 5 Will “Feel Like a Whole New Show”
Tonight is the night: the Season 4 finale of Pretty Little Liars. But what happens after the dust settles on the finale episode? What will Season 5 look like? Well, according to executive producer Marlene King, it will “feel like a whole new show.” What does she mean? Read on to find out!
At Sunday’s Pretty Little Liars PaleyFest panel, Marlene was chatted Season 5 tone. First of all, it sounds like Alison is “out” of the “being dead” closet. As you can imagine, this will vastly change the PLL dynamic. Or, as Marlene puts it: "[Season 5] feels like a whole new show because there are five Pretty Little Liars now. It's going to affect them all individually. It's going to affect them as a group. It's going to affect their relationships with their young male and female partners. Season 5 is shaping up to be emotionally the most complex season we've had so far."
Yikes! And: excellent. For too long, it’s felt like Pretty Little Liars is afraid to move forward past a certain structure. Sure, there were reveals (many of which turned out to be fake), but the overall format stayed the same. With Alison’s official return to the land of the living, Pretty Little Liars has the chance to explore some new material and dynamics. One of the most interesting aspects of Season 4B has been watching how the Liars react to the revelation that Ali is alive, and that theme is only going to intensify now that Ali is presumably back in their day-to-day lives. Bring it on, Season 5!
Are you as excited as we are for Season 5? How do you think it will be different from seasons past? Sound off in the comments below!
