The Season 4 finale of Pretty Little Liars revealed a lot about what went down the night of Alison DiLaurentis’ (Sasha Pieterse) disappearance, but we’re still left with a few big question marks — such as the identity of the person who hit Ali over the head with a rock, nearly killing her. This was also someone who Mrs. DiLaurentis would be willing to cover for, choosing to bury her own daughter rather than turn the assailant over to the cops.
Who hit Ali? Here are our main theories.
Jason once thought that he might have been responsible for Ali’s death — and we’re not so sure he wasn’t. The list of people Mrs. D. would cover up her own daughter’s death for is a short one, and Jason is at the top of it. Recently, Jason gave a whole speech about how he had to be there for his mother after everything she has been through and done for him. Was he including an attempted murder on that list? Jason certainly doesn’t remember what went down that night. He was in a drunken stupor. But, as a member of the N.A.T. Club, he would have been desperate to get those videos back. Would he have gone so far as to hurt his own sister?
Speaking of Alison’s siblings, we’re still not ready to let go of the possibility she has another one — of the twinny variety. The night someone attacked Ali, Mrs. D. was beside herself about something or someone that had gone missing. We’re thinking Ali’s potential sister broke out of Radley and was on the run. This theory makes even more sense given Mrs. D.’s recent shopping trip. In Episode 23, Mrs. Marin found clothes for a teenage girl in Ali’s old room, and Spencer saw her hand them off to someone in the woods. Has Mrs. D. been keeping Ali’s twin hidden, perhaps even in the crawl space below Emily found in the DiLaurentis basement? And, if so, is it because Ali’s twin can’t reveal herself or she will be arrested for Ali’s attempted murder?
Mrs. DiLaurentis’ twin
There’s another twin theory circulating the Interwebs, and it has to do with another DiLaurentis. Many PLLers believe that Mrs. DiLaurentis herself has a twin. If this is the case, she could have been the one who attacked Alison and the one Mrs. D. would have covered for. This makes some sense because Ali might not be aware of her mother’s twin’s existence, unlike a twin of her own. If Alison did have a mentally unstable twin, wouldn’t she have already suspected her of being “A”? But a mentally unstable aunt-twin who she’s never heard about? She probably wouldn’t make the shortlist.
