Grey’s Anatomy: Is Burke Coming Back to Give Cristina the Harper Avery Award?

Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) may be leaving Seattle — and Grey’s Anatomy — for good, but not without a bang. Thanks to the recently released synopsis, we now know that our favorite cardiothoracic surgeon is up for this year’s prestigious Harper Avery Award… an award that’s been won in the past by Cristina’s most notorious ex-boyfriend: Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington).

Burke’s return isn’t until May — while Episode 19, when Cristina is nominated, is just a few weeks away — and now that we know that she’s nominated for the Harper Avery, we suspect that Burke will be on hand to present her the award.

We’re assuming, though, that Cristina and Burke will have some point of contact before they possibly meet on stage, or it’d be incredibly awkward for them both, right?

But we do love the idea because, if it were to happen, it would be the greatest way to finally bring Cristina some closure on their relationship, which ended pretty darn abruptly when Burke left her at the altar and then disappeared.

And besides, who can argue that Cristina definitely deserves the award? She’s unquestionably the hardest worker in the hospital.

So what do you think — will Burke’s big return be to hand Cristina the coveted Harper Avery Award?
