Despite their obvious distance — Caroline is on The Vampire Diaries, while Klaus is over on The Originals — Klaroline fans are still as passionate as ever about the coupling. So naturally, it was a topic of discussion at the TVD PaleyFest panel on Saturday night.
Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec didn’t give Klaroline fans too much hope, saying, "Happiness isn't a drama magnet… If they were still on the same show, they may have found a way to be together — and then ripped apart." (Seriously, look at Delena. Do Klaroline fans really want the same fate for Klaus and Caroline?)
We know Klaus made things clear when he promised Caroline he would never show his face in Mystic Falls again, but what about the possibility of Caroline heading over to The Originals for a crossover episode? "I feel like Caroline Forbes is such a crucial element on The Vampire Diaries,” Julie Plec said. “Taking her off that show would be very damaging to the show." Not to mention, she added, "Klaus has s—t to do" in New Orleans. “It's not never say never, it's..." she said semi-hopefully, until Ian Somerhalder finished her sentence with "we have Caroline! Caroline's staying with us!" (We know how Ian feels about taking the talent away from TVD…)
We have to admit: Caroline is very much part of the Vampire Diaries DNA. Plus, we’re loving her friendship with Stefan; it’s one of the strongest dynamics on the show. Taking Caroline away from Mystic Falls would not only be damaging for her character but also hurt Stefan. Who else is he going to lean on? Long story short: Caroline still has some growing up to do before she heads to New Orleans.
We’d love to see Caroline join Klaus in the Big Easy, but it’s going to take some time for the Powers That Be to make it happen. One thing that The Originals has done extremely well since its premiere is stand on its own legs, and aside from a short visit from Tyler, it hasn’t relied on TVD to build an audience. Perhaps there will be room in Season 2 for a proper crossover arc — one that hopefully involves our favorite blondie.
What do you think, Klaroline fans? Are you disappointed by Julie Plec’s response, or do you think Caroline is too needed on TVD to leave? Sound off in the comments!
