On March 24, Team Blake Shelton country singers Alaska & Madi and Audra McLaughlin belted out a duet to “When Will I Be Loved” by Linda Ronstadt. Blake thought it was pretty easy to pair his two country vocalists together, especially with a song he felt would allow the ladies to show their personalities. Audra was told by mentor The Band Perry’s Kimberly to avoiding constantly scooping into her notes, while Alaska & Madi struggled to sync their harmonies.
During final rehearsals, Audra was advised to find a groove with her performance as she hadn’t nailed down what exactly she wanted to do and Alaska & Madi were told that while they were going to harmonize with each other, they should also try to showcase their solo vocals as well. Finally, all three ladies took the stage for their battle and astounded the coaches.
Coach Usher called the battle “phenomenal,” telling Audra that she held her own against two singers and said that her voice was powerful. Usher noted that Alaska & Madi did find comfort in singing with each other, but need to find comfort in singing separately. Coach Shakira told the duo Alaska & Madi that they sounded beautiful, but at times had harmonies that were a bit “over the top.” Coach Adam Levine thought that all three ladies did well, with Alaska & Madi possibly having a better command of the song, while Audra’s voice was definitely powerful and great at projecting. Blake told the singers that he was absolutely pleased with the performance, and would have to make the hardest decision of his life. When it was time to make a choice, Blake chose Audra.
