We love all of Once Upon a Time’s many, many mysteries, but sometimes it seems like each episode introduces more questions than answers. To that end, we’ve tackled the 10 biggest questions from this week’s episode in order to make sense of everything that happened.
Here are 10 burning questions from Season 3, Episode 14: “The Tower.”
1. Why is Zelena so obsessed with Snow’s bun in the oven?
Zelena clearly has something sinister in mind for Snow’s baby, which is why she has agreed to serve as Snow’s midwife. But why does Zelena want the little bundle of joy so badly? Perhaps Zelena has had trouble conceiving on her own?
2. What will Zelena do with David’s broken sword?
Regina informs David that the broken sword is a symbol for his courage — which is now in Zelena’s possession. (David does believe in spooks, David does believe in spooks…) So is the sword shard somehow related to whatever Zelena has planned for the baby?
3. Who is Zelena’s dad?
Okay, so it’s pretty clear that Rumple is not Zelena’s dad, as we had predicted last week. And as we try to push that bizarre face-shaving scene out of our minds, we wonder who Zelena’s dad actually is. It appears to be someone who needs to shave a lot — not to mention it’s someone who gave her green skin. Will it be someone from Oz? Then again, perhaps it’s the Grinch.
4. How did Zelena get Rumple’s dagger?
Zelena somehow managed to snag Rumple’s dagger from his shadow, which we see her using as a razor. So was Zelena able to save Rumple from dying during his battle with Peter Pan because she has his dagger? And why was she keeping the poor guy in that cage for so long?
5. Where is Rumple going?
While we’re glad that Rumple is still alive, he doesn’t seem to be leading a very full life at the moment. It appears that he has escaped from her cellar, but we’re worried that he’s not quite who he used to be, since he’s sounding pretty cuckoo these days. How will he get his once-sharp mind back?
6. Have we now met the Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow?
David appears to be without courage, which would seem to make him the Cowardly Lion. And Rumple has basically lost his mind — not to mention that he spends a lot of time with straw — so he’s probably the Scarecrow. But why does Zelena need to steal these things?
7. So is Hook going to be the Tin Man?
Hook makes a comment this week about how Emma’s broken heart means it still works — which is similar to a line that he Tin Man delivers in Wizard of Oz. Plus, Hook is already made partially of metal. Long story short: Hook may want to keep an eye on his ticker.
8. Where the heck is Neal?
We still have no idea where Neal is, as the characters continue to speculate that he might have gotten monkey-ified. We’re still convinced that Neal will show up soon, although he might still be back in Fairytale Land.
9. Did Zelena kill someone to make her curse happen?
Zelena’s exact motive for enacting this curse is still a bit murky. But given that Regina had to kill someone close to her for the initial curse to work, we’re wondering if Zelena had to do the same. Could Zelena have killed her own father, as Regina did?
10. When will Henry finally get his memories back?
It’s a bummer to see Regina have to lie to Henry, although at least he got some ice cream out of it. So how will Henry get his memories back? We think that he might regain them by finding his storybook, which could be a way for Regina to help him find out who she really is without breaking her promise to Emma that she would stay quiet.
