UPDATE: The last line of the finale comes from Rick, in the Terminus train car. He says they’re going to feel pretty stupid when they find out. Find out what? Long pause. “They’re screwing with the wrong people.” Heck yeah! On Talking Dead, they said they were going to use the f-bomb line from the comics (Issue #64, during The Hunters storyline), but the FCC gets touchy about that kind of thing. Did you love the final line?
How can The Walking Dead Season 4 top "It's for you"? That was a great line, from Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) to Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) on Episode 9, the mid-season premiere. Now we're up to Episode 16, the season finale, "A," which airs Sunday, March 30 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
The cast and producers teased the ending, with a lot of the usual superlatives and death threats, but also some interesting details from producer/director/special effects guru Greg Nicotero.
"Every beat and moment leads somewhere and pays off," Greg told The Hollywood Reporter. "We spent a lot of time crafting those bits and pieces. Seeing where the season goes and how it ends -- the last line in the episode gave me chills when I first read it -- I think people are going to love it. People are going to feel like they went on an amazing journey and all we've done is open a new door to a new journey. The threat level is high. It's suspenseful, thrilling and exciting."
Nice! Comic book writer/producer Robert Kirkman added to THR, "I would expect a very high level of deadliness. Our season finale is not going to disappoint anyone; we've got some big stuff planned." Yeah, but is it deadliness for Team Prisoners or just Joe's Marauders and maybe some "redshirts" at Terminus?
There's a lot going on for our long-suffering group, whether everyone arrives, survives, or dies at Terminus. As Lauren Cohan (Maggie Greene) teased, "Can't these guys get a break?! It's The Walking Dead! There are worse threats than death." What's worse than death? Hmm... being eaten alive?
Check out a bunch of spoilers and speculation on the finale here and let us know, after the show, if you love that chilling final line as much as Nicotero. Who will say it and how will it give us chills? We know a major cliffhanger is coming — will it be tied to the final line? Danai Gurira (Michonne) told Digital Spy none of the finale predictions have been right so far, so we may be in for a jaw-dropper. “No one is going to be able to figure out this ending,” she said, “so it's going to be a really exciting thing to watch people respond to!”
They are leaving us with sky-high expectations for this finale (although the bar is certainly low after last season’s finale). Don’t let us down or we’ll make you look at the flowers!
Update: Andrew Lincoln added to the New York Post, "In this episode, there’s a line that a character says, the last line of the episode, that’s probably the first time we ended [a season] on a ‘what’s gonna happen next?’ moment." Fans have been speculating that Rick might say "We are the Walking Dead," which is a line he dropped in the comic books, back in Issue #24. We're in the #57 zone now, but since he hasn't said that on screen yet, and it's an iconic line, will this be the time?
The Walking Dead Season 4 finale airs Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
