The Walking Dead Season 4 finale aired tonight, March 30. After a “savage” encounter between Michonne (Danai Gurira), Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) and Joe (Jeff Kober) and the marauders ended in Rick fatally taking a bite out of Joe’s neck, the trio rejoined with Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and arrived at Terminus.
Once there, Rick spotted Hershel’s old watch and knew something was up. As viewers we also saw Maggie Greene’s (Lauren Cohan) poncho and Glenn Rhee’s (Steven Yeun) riot gear, but there was no sign of either of them or the other Team Prison survivors who arrived at Terminus in Season 4, Episode 15: “Us”.
After a failed attempt shooting up Terminus and then escaping, Michonne, Rick, and Carl were directed (at gunpoint) to a nearby abandoned train car. Once inside the car they realized that they’d been reunited with Glenn, Maggie, Bob Stookey (Larry Gilliard Jr.), and Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), and even had some new company in the form of Tara Chambler (Alanna Masterson), Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz), Dr. Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt), and Rosita Espinosa (Christian Serratos).
Despite this happy reunion, there was no glimpse or even mention of Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), Tyreese (Chad Coleman), or Beth Greene (Emily Kinney). We don’t know where poor Beth is, but last we checked Carol and Tyreese were en route to Terminus with baby Judith in tow.
On Talking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple was asked about everyone else’s whereabouts, and after refusing to say whether or not they were in another train car somewhere, this was his response: “Every eight episodes this show reinvents itself, it has to, it’s just the way the show has always been. It’s incredibly exciting, it’s incredibly challenging, and next Season 5 it will be a whole new show again.”
“Am I in it?”, fellow Talking Dead guest Andy Lincoln asked.
“You will be in it. You’ll be in it a little more, frankly,” Scott quipped. “This last half season I’ve loved and there’s some incredible work, but this next half season is going to, I guess, be a nuclear weapon.”
