On March 31, Team Usher singers T.J. Wilkins and Cierra Mickens belted out a duet to “Get Here” by Oleta Adams. Usher chose to pair the two because of their unique voices and ability to bring out great performances. After checking their possible songs, both Cierra and T.J. chose “Get Here” by Oleta James because they both thought it would bring out the best in their vocals.
During rehearsals, Usher advised Cierra to flush out her notes and take her time, and told T.J. to nail down his strategy for the song. Mentor Chris Martin thought that the duo lacked a connection and Usher asked them both to find a significant moment that they can both share to make their performance feel real.
Coach Shakira was proud of Cierra, calling her an amazing singer and T.J. an awesome vocalist. The Colombian superstar even bowed down to them! Adam Levine stated that Cierra and T.J.’s performance was neck and neck, while Blake Shelton called Cierra flawless and T.J.’s voice powerful. Usher complimented both singers — Cierra for bringing out something within her and T.J. for making a female ballad his own. When it was time for Usher to make a choice, he decided to keep T.J. on his team.
