She’ll spiral into depression. Let’s face it: Ali is not exactly set up for success with her return to Rosewood. Not only will there be many, many questions about her fake death and the threat of “A” still on her, but she’ll have to deal with the murder of her own mother with whom she never had the chance to work things out. We wouldn’t be surprised if Ali cracked under the weight of such traumas, and ended up in PLL’s favorite mental health facility: Radley.
She’ll fall back into her old ways . On the other hand, Ali was always at her most powerful when manipulating other people, and where better to do that than in high school? Will Alison deal with the difficulties of returning to Rosewood by falling back into old patterns of bullying and blackmailing?
She’ll join the cheerleading squad. Word on the street is that one of the Liars will become a cheerleader in Season 5. This is just a random enough plot development that we think it might belong to Ali’s character. What better way to reintegrate back into society than by getting more involved in extracurriculars? It’s hard to imagine Alison with pom poms, but if anyone knows how to put on a smile, it’s this one.
She’ll lean on the Liars for support. One of the underlying and consistent themes of PLL is the friendship between the core four. Whatever else happens to these girls, whoever else betrays them, they always have one another to depend on. Moving forward, it will be interesting to see just how much Ali is part of that theme and group. Will she be one of the Liars, privy to their “A” missions and intel sessions? Or will she be an outsider they cannot trust. If it’s the former, we think Ali might be OK back in Rosewood. If it’s the latter, we worry about how she might react.
She’ll make new friends. Though we’re excited to see how Ali interacts with the Liars in Season 5, we may be even more excited to see how she gels (or doesn’t) with the many supporting characters — some of whom have never met her. There’s been whispers of a potential kiss between Ali and Caleb — do these two forge an unexpected connection? Or, perhaps, Ali chooses to confide in Noel, who was helping her stay on the run? There are so many compelling characters in Rosewood, and we’re still not sure what their relationships are to Ali. We hope Season 5 gives us some unexpected alliances.
