Lindsay Lohan fans who have tuned in for her self-titled OWN docuseries are probably pretty disappointed by the reality program so far. While we had hoped to see the once-promising young starlet on her road to a career comeback, we’re instead stuck following the monotonous process of Lindsay moving into her NYC apartment. But during last night’s April 6 episode of Lindsay, we were privy to at least a little transparency from the actress: She admitted to a relapse after her stint in rehab last summer.
In the ep, Lindsay heads to Los Angeles to pursue some career prospects, which she refuses to allow the cameras to document — come on, Linds! When she returns, she’s dogged by press who photographed her during her visit, as she seemingly reached for a bottle of wine.
“I just got back from Los Angeles, which I’m very relieved to be back,” she begins hesitantly, “It’s just really hard being in L.A. … It’s this constant, kind of, unsettling feeling being out there.”
While Lindsay claims the bottle of wine was her friend’s, she does eventually cop to relapsing with alcohol one month prior. She is, however, quick to assert that it was only one glass, which she blames on a former relationship.
“Being in recovery and leaving in a place where you’re in this little bubble and everything is safe around you, it’s really hard,” Lindsay recounts, before elaborating, “and I jumped right into a relationship … where we weren’t on the same page. I wasn’t considering the fact that the person I was seeing does drink, and I had a glass of wine. And that was it, but I just had so much guilt.”
According to the Mean Girls star, she was in denial for some time before she was able to admit the reality to herself.
“It took me a bit to finally realize, ‘Why am I holding this in? Yea, f—k it, I screwed up! And that’s OK. But what can I do so that doesn’t happen again.’ That’s a part of the process — that’s a part of life,” Lindsay spills, showing a rarely seen vulnerability.
That’s the side of Lindsay Lohan we were hoping to see! Not that we would ever want her to relapse, but we do want her to be honest and move forward. Keep at it, girl!
Lindsay airs on Sunday nights at 10 p.m. ET on OWN.
