On April 8, Team Blake Shelton singer Sisaundra Lewis gave a rousing performance of “New York State of Mind” by Billy Joel. Sisaundra chose to the perform the Billy Joel classic because it reminded her of all the sacrifices she made for her family while living in New York as a singer. During rehearsals, Blake told the powerhouse vocalist that even though he enjoys how she throws her Sisaundra flair on her songs, she wouldn’t have to oversing the song.

With her coach’s notes taken into consideration, Sisaundra took the stage with her rendition of the song and left the coaches in complete awe. Coach Usher told Sisaundra that he loved her voice and still couldn’t understand that she was on Team Blake (which Adam Levine agreed with). He went on to tell Sisaundra that she’s a teacher showing the coaches what amazing talent she is, and what an outstanding artist she will become.

Shakira told Sisaundra that voice definitely leaves the coaches breathless and that she’s an amazing talent. Adam told Sisaundra that she can sing, get lost in it, and with her voice and soul, can do almost anything. Adam’s only technical critique for Sisaundra was that she was bit out of the pocket during the beginning of her performance, but ultimately she pulled it all together by the end.

Blake told Sisaundra that she makes him re-think the way he coaches because with her it’s more emotional than technical.
