Kate Middleton Beats Prince William Yacht Racing in New Zealand (VIDEO)
Prince William’s trip down under with Kate Middleton and the always adorable baby George might be more business than pleasure, but it doesn’t mean the royal family isn’t getting in some playtime in their travels. Friday, Will and Kate fired up a little friendly competition as they both hit the open seas in a yacht race around the Auckland Harbor in New Zealand.
Kate knew she had this one in the bag before the race even began, though. “Take care!” Kate said to Will as they headed off to their separate yachts, according to People — and later saluted him as she sailed right past him to victory.
“Yeah, see you later,” Will replied.
Grant Dalton, the managing director of Emirates Team New Zealand, says this must have been quite a loss for will. “There are no friends on the water. No quarter given,” Grant said. “I’m sure Prince William would not want to be beaten by his wife.”
It was all in good fun, though — something Will and Kate are appreciating now that they get the opportunity to take a quick break from their royal responsibilities while traveling. “With all the formal parts of the tour, the functions and the different appearances, it must be nice to do a few of the fun things like going for a sail,” New Zealand’s America’s Cup team captain Dean Barker said. “It’s good to see they are human and like to do all the things we all like to do.”
Meanwhile, Prince George has been doing nothing but playing. In fact, he made his own official appearance at a playdate at New Zealand’s Government House. Is it okay if we’re jealous of the other babies who got to play with him?
