Nina Dobrev is at it again: impressing us with her energy, ambition, and crazy work schedule. Though Season 5 of Vampire Diaries may have just wrapped filming, that doesn’t mean Nina is slowing down. She’s just been cast in a new horror comedy called The Final Girls, filming to begin next week in Louisiana.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nina will star alongside Malin Akerman and Taissa Farmiga in the Todd Strauss-Schulson-directed film which “centers on a girl who, along with her friends, is mysteriously transported into the world of an iconic ’80s horror flick, which starred her recently deceased mother (Akerman), a famous scream queen. The group must try to survive the movie and defeat its crazed killer.”
Sounds potentially awesome to us! And we’re digging the female-centric horror cast. Nina will play the “alpha ex-best friend.” Whatever that means, we’re sure she can pull it off. Also involved in the film: Adam Devine (Pitch Perfect, Comedy Central's Workaholics), Alexander Ludwig (Hunger Games), and Silicon Valley’s Thomas Middleditch.
We’re psyched to see Nina in another big-screen project, but we can’t help but wish she were getting bigger roles. Perhaps it’s the silly stigma that CW shows tend to carry, but we’ve yet to see Hollywood stand up and take notice of Nina the way this talented actress deserves. Her talent and on-screen charismas is obvious to anyone who’s seen her play both TVD’s vampire girl-next-door Elena and scheming temptress Katherine — sometimes, in the same scene. Basically, when is she going to get to star in one of these film things?
What do you think of the premise for The Final Girls? Do you think Nina should be getting more film roles? Sound off in the comments below!
The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
