Vampire Diaries star Paul Wesley hearts New York City. So much, in fact, that the actor just bought an apartment in the Big Apple. Listen to Paul wax poetic about the city that never sleeps in this interview with PIX11.
“I just got an apartment here,” Paul told the local news station. “It’s my favorite city in the world.” Why does Paul love NYC oh-so-much? For one, he grew up only 45 minutes away in New Jersey. Secondly, the city is a “mecca of culture,” he said — which must be a particular point of interest for an actor interesting in directing and filming outside of TVD. In fact, Paul currently has a film in the festival circuit that filmed in Brooklyn. Directed by friend Shawn Christensen, who won last year’s Oscar for “Live Action Short,” Before I Disappear co-stars Emmy Rossum (Shameless), Richard Schiff (The West Wing), and Shawn himself. The film won the Audience Award at the recent South by Southwest Film Festival.
Paul is also taking part in another New York City tradition: the Tribeca Film Festival. He is acting as one of a handful of judges (including Whoopi Goldberg) in the short film category for the movie event, which is in its 13th year. “First of all, I’m flattered. Tribeca Film Festival is a prestigious festival,” Paul said of the chance to judge. “I have a huge passion for short film, and I have all the DVDs. I’m watching them. It’s a big deal, so I’m taking it very seriously.”
Paul was spotted shopping for apartments with former co-star Phoebe Tonkin in December, so we’re glad Paul found the perfect spot. We’re guessing that Paul will only use the apartment when he has time off from TVD production, which is based in Atlanta. The show has been renewed for a sixth season, but that is the final season in Paul, Nina Dobrev, and Ian Somerhalder’s contracts. The possibility of seventh season is very much up in the air.
