Drama, drama, drama — that’s what’s going on tonight on Grey’s Anatomy, but isn’t it always? This time, it’s relationship drama, and hardly any couple goes untouched. Meanwhile, Cristina’s busy doing everything she can to avoid writing the speech she’ll give if she wins the Harper Avery award, and she, Meredith, and Alex reconnect for the first time in a long time.
So how did Season 10, Episode 20 (“Go It Alone”) leave our favorite pairs? Here’s what you need to know before next week:
Meredith and Derek: Um, not so good. Meredith asks Derek to picks up the kids, and thanks to his last minute decision to pull all the interns in on a surgery he’d previously canceled, he forgets… so Meredith’s obviously mad, and Callie and Arizona end up with the babies. Look alive, Derek! You owe Mer big time after going back on your big promise to let her shine this year.
Everything’s okay in the end though — although they do agree they’re juggling too much and something has to change. But what?
Callie and Arizona: Calzona’s dying for some alone time — something that’s been hard to come by lately. Unfortunately, their Bailey/Zola babysitting duties crash their romantic night out, but they manage to reconnect at home while trying to figure out who’s going to carry their next baby.
After a coin toss — which is always the best way to settle serious, life-changing decisions — they decide Callie’s up for pregnancy, round two. Ugh, we are seriously so in love with the idea of another Calzona baby. They’re so adorable we’re ready to puke butterflies and unicorns.
April and Jackson: The couple faring the worst this episode is our favorite newlyweds. Considering their super rash decision to get married, neither of them have taken the time to discuss a lot of stuff that people who, you know, don’t decide to get married after interrupting a separate wedding talk about before making the biggest commitment of their lives so far.
A little argument about a cochlear implant turns into a major blowout over Jackson disagreeing with April’s religious beliefs, which are clearly really important to her. And when Jackson flat out tells her God isn’t real — yes, to her face. We couldn’t believe it either — that’s the last straw. It’s pretty much unbelievable that Jackson would disrespect her like that, especially since her belief system isn’t new to him. Of course, then she threw out that she pities him, which isn't great, either...
Cue April ending up on Callie and Arizona’s doorstep, asking to stay with them.
Cristina, Alex, and Meredith: Possibly the best relationship of them all: The group of core interns who are left at Grey Sloan. Now they’re back where it all began — in the OR. Alex divulges his secret to them before anyone else, besides Jo, of course. He’s doubling up on shifts, working at the private practice and the hospital, and nobody’s the wiser. Doesn’t mean he’s not tired, though.
And then, the moment we’ve all been waiting for…
Cristina finally arrives at the Harper Avery award ceremony, totally alone and totally panicked. She calls Meredith, begging her to come… and when she walks inside, she’s already there, waiting for Owen. But our hearts are full only for them to break a few seconds later when Catherine Avery announces the winner of the Harper Avery and… it’s not Cristina.
What is it with the Avery family tonight? We give up.
