So long, Thierry! We’ll miss your stylish hats and the way you loved across faction lines. But, don’t worry, we’re sure you’ll be seeing some friendly faces soon enough. In fact we have a feeling Thierry was only the first character to be claimed by the recent resurgence of violence on The Originals. Who will die next in the supernatural factions’ battle for control of the French Quarter? Here are our top guesses — in chronological death order.
Father Kieran. There’s no way this dude is making it out of this season alive. Not only has his hex been more-or-less deemed incurable by the witches, but as long as he’s alive, Cami can’t rise to the role of Leader of the Humans. And that has to happen, right? It’s like in Disney movies: you have to kill off the parents before the kiddies can come into their own. Sorry, K! You’re Bambi’s mother in this scenario.
Oliver or Eve. Word on the street is that there will be an attack on the werewolf camp in the bayou in next week’s episode. There has to be at least one werewolf death or this plot development will feel like a total missed opportunity with zero stakes. Our money is on Oliver because we know his name, but he doesn’t have the weird betrothed chemistry going on with Hayley like Jackson does. A close runner-up however is Eve, who randomly showed up at the end of last night’s episode and was super nice to Elijah. Why can’t they be allies? We would watch that show. Unfortunately, we think we may be watching the show that kills off Eve before she and Elijah can join forces to rule the French Quarter with compassion and grace.
Diego. Diego has exposable character written all over him. If he were on Star Trek, he would be wearing a red shirt -- the kind that means you’re not going to die right away, but that there’s no way you’re going to make it out of this show alive. The fanciest of Red Shirts. The equivalent to a red shirt on The Originals is our knowing your name, but not really caring if you live or die (see: Oliver, above). Diego’s death would be enough to mean something to viewers, to get some sort of reaction out of other characters, but not enough to affect the narrative or audience in any real way. Basically, the lamest kind of character death.
Genevieve. After last night’s episode, Genevieve’s death seems like a forgone conclusion, but we think she might hold on until the Season 1 finale. After all, that’s when the baby is popping out and she now has a mission to kill her? If Genevieve accepts this task, then we don’t think she’ll make it. Not only because Klaus will totally not be cool with that, but that’s hard to come back from as a character. Going after a baby, that’s pretty irredeemable. (OK, Tyler Lockwood?!)
Monique. We actually really hope Monique doesn’t die. She’s like the worst of all high school mean girls but with an arsenal of magical, earthquake-causing abilities. Basically, she scares the crap out of us and we think we need that on this show. However, we also think she’s letting the power get to her. If Klaus doesn’t kill her for threatening the life of his baby, then Davina will eventually take her out for being so gosh-darn evil. And then Davina will be the Leader of the Witches because this is basically a coven of teenagers at this point, right?
Klaus. Joseph Morgan called the Season 1 finale “a script to die for baby.” Could this be a literal reference? Hear us out: This season has been all about failed Klaus’ attempts at redemption, about his inability to prove to his loved ones (namely, Elijah) that he truly cares for his unborn child and that she isn’t just another pawn to control in his quest for power. We think the season has to end with some kind of sacrifice that proves his dedication to his daughter beyond a shadow of a doubt, and we think Klaus’ death will do the trick. Of course, he’ll totally be resurrected next season.
