Vampire Diaries Ratings: Season 5, Episode 18 Delivers New Series Low
Uh oh.The Vampire Diaries hit a new series low in the ratings with Season 5, Episode 18 (“Resident Evil”). Only 1.66 million viewers tuned into to watch Stefan and Elena share visions of their could-have-been live together. We break down the unfortunate ratings below...
According to Zap2it, TVD scored a series low with a 0.7 adults 18-49 rating, which was down 13 percent from the 0.8 low it saw for its previous episode. This marked TVD’s second subsequent episode to strike a series low, signalling that this drop in ratings might be the start of a decline in viewership rather than a fluke caused by exceedingly tough competition. Last week’s episode dropped in the ratings, despite there being no new episodes from The Big Bang Theory (9.67 million viewers) and Grey’s Anatomy (3.42 million viewers). However, it did face off against the season finale of Community (2.9 million viewers) and a new episode of Hell’s Kitchen (4.82 million viewers).
This is not good news for the show. That being said, it is still one of the top draws for The CW and a sixth season of the vampire drama has already been ordered. We’re more concerned about Reign, which has TVD as its lead-in. Reign matched its previous week’s series low (which had aired after a repeat of TVD) with a 0.4 in adults 18-49 rating. Reign has been given a second season pickup, but it’s hard to see a long-term future for the royals if the ratings slide continues.
Are you surprised by another drop in the ratings? Do you think the trend will continue? Sound off in the comments below!
