On April 21, Team Adam Levine pop vocalist Christina Grimmie gave a rousing performance of “Dark Horse” by Katy Perry. Christina chose the song as it represents the kind of artist that she’d like to become — a bit of rock, pop, and R&B. Christina received a couple notes from her coach to manage the delicate parts of the song while not running out of breath.

Taking the stage with the dark pop hit, Christina stomped across the stage and belted out her usual big notes with ease and edge.

Blake Shelton was one hundred percent proof that dynamite comes from a small package. He was amazed by Christina’s powerful voice and called her the competitor to beat. Shakira admitted that she was stumped by Christina’s approach to the song, and said she nailed it. Adam said that he was more and more impressed by Christina’s performance, and thought that she was able to make the song completely hers, which is something that she would ultimately have to do as a solo vocalists. Usher chimed in, saying he thought Christina gave an interpretation of who she wanted to be as an artist, saying she’s the best singer on Adam’s team.
