A baby in China gave his parents quite a surprise recently, when he was born with an extra set of arms and legs.
According to China’s Global Times, the baby was born on April 2 in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, China. Doctors believe the extra appendages are the result of the infant having a headless parasitic twin attached to his torso.
Chief surgeon at Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center said, "They were supposed to be twins, but one had underdeveloped and became deformed."
The newborn underwent surgery on April 11 to remove the extra set of limbs and is reported to be in stable condition. The infant, however, also suffers from congenital heart disease and pneumonia.
The father, identified using only his surname, Mr. Chen, told the media that his wife had five routine checkups during her pregnancy, all of which were normal.
Despite this, he seems to blame himself for his son’s deformity stating, "I only cared about my work. I just thought of making money instead of taking her to the hospital for a medical check-up."
