Grey’s Anatomy Creator Shonda Rhimes to Be Commencement Speaker at Dartmouth
It’s a great year to be a senior at Dartmouth College. No, not just to receive a diploma from one of the top schools in the country, although that’s definitely a plus — but to forever remember your graduation as The Day Shonda Rhimes Spoke To Your Class.
Yes, it’s official: The Grey’s Anatomy creator and woman responsible for our TV-related emotional ruin is the commencement speaker for Dartmouth’s 2014 graduation ceremony in June — Shonda’s alma mater.
“Rhimes grew up in an academic family in Chicago, and loved books and storytelling even as a young child,” the announcement from the college said, according to Valley News. “An English literature with creative writing major, she was director of Dartmouth’s Black Underground Theater and Arts Association, and her work earned her numerous awards for excellence as an undergraduate.”
Not to mention the many awards Shonda’s earned since graduating — did anyone say Golden Globes?
Shonda will also be receiving an honorary doctorate of the arts at the commencement. That’s right: This summer, we can officially start calling her Dr. Rhimes, which means she’ll fit in with the rest of the Grey’s cast even more perfectly.
Go, Shonda! If only we were still in college… and, you know, had attended Dartmouth.
