The cast of The Walking Dead doesn’t get much awards show love (this still makes no sense to us) but they are worshipped by fans of the show. Comic book creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman and showrunner Scott Gimple have similar followings, but there are a slew of others behind the scenes who often don’t get the level of recognition we think they deserve.
One such talented person is TWD executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, who can be seen in various behind the scenes videos and frequently tweets about the show. Gale may be less visible than some of her co-workers, but her contributions to TWD and Hollywood as a whole have hardly gone unnoticed.
In fact, on April 20, Gale received the Achievement in American Film Award at the Charleston International Film Festival. PRWeb has the details and noted that “legendary” Gale was introduced by esteemed actor Bill Paxton who also happens to be one of her good friends. "I hold a dear place in my heart for Charleston, as it was a location for my first major motion picture, The Lords of Discipline,” Bill began. “Coming back to visit for the festival to honor my friend and colleague, Gale Anne Hurd, was a pleasure."
In addition to The Walking Dead, Gale boasts an illustrious career that includes producing award-winning films and television programs, such as The Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, Armageddon, The Incredible Hulk, Tremors, Dante’s Peak.
Despite all of her success in TV and film, it’s clear that Gale was truly humbled to be honored at the Charleston International Film Festival. “Having filmed in Charleston early in my career, it was an honor to receive the first Achievement in American Film Award from such a well-curated festival,” she said when accepting the award. “In a sea of film festivals, Charleston IFF is one that is truly magical.”
