Dancing With the Stars Season 18 is filled with little rivalries — even if the cast actually gets along fine and no one has been feuding — and all eyes have been on Meryl Davis and Charlie White from the start.
The ice dancers entered the spring season after winning gold in the Sochi Olympics. Now, for the first time, they’re actually competing against each other. Who’s going to top whom in this little contest?
Judge Carrie Ann Inaba has been scoring the Olympians on TV and also keeping a little tally in her mind. She expanded on that subject when extolling the virtues of Meryl’s amazing Tango with Maksim Chmerkovskiy on Party Anthem Night.
“Now, this was the moment of the night if you ask me — when Meryl Davis and Maks Chmerkovskiy danced, it took my breath away — and my words,” Carrie Ann wrote in her Parade blog. “Magic happened in that Tango. You could feel the room change as they danced.”
That’s already quite an endorsement, but she continued. “So far (in the mini competition between Meryl and Charlie White that has been going on), I believe Charlie has been winning. He has been consistently strong and entertaining. However, last night, Meryl took the lead. She and Maks have some sort of X-factor. It’s something that goes beyond words and that surpasses the movement alone. They have a sizzling chemistry that is intoxicating to experience. What a memorable moment.”
If Meryl is going to take the lead, now would be the time to do it. We’re past the halfway point of the competition, and it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. M&M do have amazing chemistry, and she brings out something special in him. They got their first perfect score of the season with that Tango. Now they just have to keep this momentum.
But do you agree with Carrie Ann that Meryl took a step ahead of Charlie, or do you see Charlie as the stronger DWTS performer?
DWTS Season 18 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
