J.K. Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy Coming to HBO as a Miniseries
Super excited for the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Themtrilogy? It’ll still be awhile before those movies hit theaters, but in the meantime, J.K. Rowling is bringing another one of her best-selling novels to life: The Casual Vacancy.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, J.K’s 2012 novel is being transformed into a three-part miniseries for HBO in co-production with BBC. Although the book may be closed on Harry and his friends forever, we’re so glad J.K. continues to give us new books and movies as her universe lives on.
The Casual Vacancy tells the story of an English village, Pagford, that comes unhinged following the death of Parish Councillor Barry Fairbrother, and an election must be held to replace him. Sounds right up HBO’s alley to us!
J.K. will also executive produce the series with literary agent and production partner, Neil Blair. Sarah Phelps, who’s responsible for EastEnders and BBC’s Great Expectations, will pen the screenplay. We're sure the miniseries will absolutely live up to the high standards set by the original novel. When has anything J.K.'s been involved with not turned to gold?
Ready to see the book in action? Filming begins this summer in South West England. We can’t wait!
