The Originals Ratings: Season 1, Episode 19 Hits Another Series Low
After enjoying a steadily growing audience for most of its run, The Originalshas fallen into a ratings rut. This week’s episode — Season 1, Episode 19 (“An Unblinking Death”) — marked the second subsequent series low for the supernatural spin-off. Only 1.5 million viewers tuned in to watch Cami struggle to save her uncle; explosions (and betrayal) tear apart the werewolf camp; and Klaus and Elijah finally join forces.
According toZap2it, theVampire Diariesspin-off pulled in just 1.5 million viewers, only earning a 0.6 in the key 18-49 demo. That’s down a tenth from the previous episode’s series low of a 0.7. Yikes! Where are all of the viewers going? And is this the result of the many mini-hiatuses the show has suffered in recent weeks, or is it indicative of a disinterest with recent plot developments?
The big winners in the 8 a.m. ET slot were NBC’s The Voice and ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which garnered 11.29 million viewers and 6.04 million viewers, respectively. A repeat of NCIS on CBS managed to beat out new episodes of both Glee and The Originals. Ouch.
Now, The Originals has already been renewed for a second season — and even begun filming for it — but that doesn’t mean we aren’t still worried about this show moving forward. We want this show to last as many seasons as its source material. Hopefully, it picks up some more viewers in the episodes leading up to the season finale. We hear it’s “to die for”!
