Does Emilia Clarke Wear a Wig on Game of Thrones?

If you've ever seen a picture of the Mother of Dragons out of character, you know Emilia Clarke is a brunette in the real world. How does she achieve Daenerys Targaryen's signature platinum blonde locks?

Yep, it's a wig.

We're not surprised Emilia wears a wig for the role; dying her hair Dany-blonde would require a lot of bleach! Emilia told Los Angeles Times that donning the wig helps her get in touch with the character, and sometimes she's sad to take it off at the end of the day!

Jaime Lannister showed up with a whole new look on Season 4, but for those of you who were confused: Yes, he's still played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. It's amazing what a difference a bath, a shave, and a haircut can make!

That said, there have been some notable re-castings over the years. Learn about them here.

Is Oberyn Martell Related to Daenerys Targaryen?

Some clever fans are wondering if Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascal) is related to the Mother of Dragons. They answer is kinda, but not by blood, and only tangentially.

Oberyn's sister was Elia Martell. She was married to Prince Rhaegar Targaryen back before Robert's Rebellion. After the fall of King's Landing, she was raped and murdered by The Mountain, which is why Oberyn is out for revenge (learn more about that situation here).

Rhaegar, who was also killed during the rebellion, was Dany's older brother. He died before Dany was born, but if history had gone another way, Oberyn would have been Dany's brother-in-law.
