There doesn’t seem to be an overriding theme to Dancing With the Stars Season 18, Week 8 — like Disney Night or next week’s American Icons theme — but the top six couples will have two more dances on Monday, May 5, and Abby Lee Miller will be the guest judge to provide commentary and scores (and controversy).
All six pairs have now shared their dance styles, although we’re still not 100 percent sure what’s up with the second dance — which ABC is calling the Celebrity Dance Duel. Here’s the breakdown:
Charlie White and Sharna Burgess — Quickstep, Dance Duel Contemporary with Candace & Mark
Candace Cameron Bure and Mark Ballas — Foxtrot, Dance Duel Contemporary with Charlie & Sharna
Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy — Rumba, Dance Duel Samba with Danica & Val
Danica McKellar and Valentin Chmerkovskiy — Tango, Dance Duel Samba with Meryl & Maks
James Maslow and Peta Murgatroyd — Viennese Waltz, Dance Duel Jive with Amy & Derek
Amy Purdy and Derek Hough — Argentine Tango, Dance Duel with Jive James & Peta
James explained a bit about the partner dance in his blog. The six couples will broken into groups of two, and James and Peta will be dancing with Amy and Derek. The four of them will dance for about 20 seconds, then the pros will leave and the celebs will dance together for 20 seconds, then they all come back together.
ABC later added, in a press release, in the Celebrity Dance Duel round, two couples will be paired up to perform a style of dance that they’ve both previously performed. All four members of the mini team will dance together to the same song but during the middle of the performance, the Pros will leave the floor, leaving the two celebrities to dance together.
So far, so good, but we still don’t know what the other pairings will be. Maybe the Chmerkovskiys will pair up, or maybe they’ll put Charlie with Meryl so the ice dancers can perform together. (UPDATE: Yep, the bros are sticking together! So Charlie and Candace will be paired in the duel.)
Which dance, or dances, are you most excited to see on Monday — provided our many injured stars are up for the challenges?
DWTS Season 18 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
