On May 5, Team Blake Shelton singer Jake Worthington gave a rousing performance of “Hillbilly Deluxe” by Brooks & Dunn.

Although Jake’s allergies had him feeling a little under the weather, coach Blake and guest mentor (former The Voice contestant) Gwen Sebastian told him to do as best as he can with the song. At rehearsals, Blake and Gwen were surprised by Jake’s unrelenting ability to push through while not at his best.

Both Gwen and Blake advised Jake to rest up for a great performance, and when Jake took the stage, it was almost as though the teenage country crooner never felt better.

Shakira said that Jake had her ear drumming, which meant that she liked it, a lot. She thought the song was very aggressive and frontal, a side of him she hadn’t seen before, but enjoyed immensely. Adam Levine called Jake “cool” and said that he learned more and more about the “real deal” country through him. Adam went on to say that it’s always a pleasure to see Jake perform, and that he’s rooting for the singer to make it through.

When it was time to speak, Blake said that America’s in love with Jake the “dude,” but tonight he introduced the audience to Jake the “artist.”
