The Walking Dead Will “Be Lucky to Make it to Season 7″ — Robert Kirkman

We hope The Walking Dead makes it way past Season 7 — and not just because Robert Kirkman speculated at one point that Negan might not show up until Season 9.

Season 5 just started shooting down in Georgia, and apparently some fans are nervous that the show will wear out its welcome if it stays on AMC too long. (Blasphemy!)

In the fan letters column of TWD comic book Issue 126, Robert Kirkman responded to a fan who asked him end the show by Season 7 or Season 8, at the latest, rather than milk it further. “Just because something goes a long time doesn’t mean it’s being milked,” RK responded (via Comicbook.com). “We’ll be lucky to make it to Season 7, but if we go beyond that it’ll be because we have a story to tell.”

Hear, hear! It would take a shocking reversal of ratings fortune for AMC to decide not to renew TWD past Season 7. Then again, RK did say he wants the comic book to outlast the TV show, so if they decide Season 7 or Season 8 is a good point to end the series, RK will reveal his secret ending and let the comic books just continue on.

Do you think TWD will last beyond Season 7? If you had to throw down a number for the end, what would you pick? Ten seasons? 15? How long can this go on?

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October on AMC.
