Shailene Woodley has become a font of odd quotes. Is she the new Jennifer Lawrence, or just her own interesting self?
The Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars actress recently talked about loving to dance around with hairy armpits, and how she's not a feminist because she loves men too much.
And now she's talking about clay. She was just on the Late Show with David Letterman and they had a full three-minute talk about her love for eating clay. It’s not necessarily weird on its own, but it became weird during their chat.
Shailene orders her clay online, sourced from Colorado, among other places. Clay is one of her favorites, she said, adding that indigenous cultures around the world eat clay for good health. "If you talk to a taxi driver in New York City and ask them if they, if women in their — pregnant women in a lot of other countries eat clay, too, because it's really good for their bodies when the babies are growing and whatnot,” she said, then turned to the audience. “I'm not joking, look it up, it's really interesting."
Dave said he'll give her that, it's really interesting. Everyone laughed, including Shailene.
Dave wanted to know the difference between eating clay and eating dirt. She said it was a great question, then added, "I'm not smart enough to answer that."
She said she eats about a teaspoon of clay every day, making her toothpaste out of it. That made Dave feel better, since he pictured her eating clumps of it out of a bowl or something. What are the benefits of eating clay? "Clay binds to other materials in your body,” she explained, “and helps your body excrete those materials that are not necessarily the best for you. Like toxins and heavy metals and whatnot." Dave deadpanned in response: "Have you heard of Metamucil?"
Nice! Watch their talk in the video below. She’s not wrong about clay, though. Plenty of people do like to eat it, and here are some reasons why.
